Support First Nation Peoples, communities, and their businesses all year round.

ASPL Group blog
This NAIDOC Week, let's reflect on how we can continue to support First Nation Peoples, communities, and their businesses all year round. Here are some meaningful actions to take:

As an Individual:

  1. Raise up Indigenous voices: Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in speaking for themselves. Encourage their efforts and add your voice only when asked.
  2. Be respectful and open to learning: Provide safe spaces for Indigenous people to speak freely. Engage with platforms like IndigenousX to learn more.
  3. Speak up: Challenge inappropriate comments and racial stereotypes. Support fellow allies in speaking up against racism.
  4. Expand your knowledge: Engage with resources that provide authentic information about Indigenous cultures. Check out:
  5. Take care of yourself: Practice self-care to maintain your ability to support others. Surround yourself with positive people, be open to learning, and seek help when needed.

As a Business:

  1. Implement Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs): Develop and implement RAPs to support the social and economic growth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  2. Cultural Awareness Training: Provide ongoing cultural awareness and competency training for all employees to foster an inclusive and respectful workplace.
  3. Support Indigenous Businesses: Prioritise procurement from Indigenous-owned businesses and support their growth by providing mentorship and partnership opportunities.
  4. Employment Opportunities: Create and promote job opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Implement targeted recruitment strategies and provide support for career development.
  5. Community Engagement: Partner with local Indigenous communities and organisations to support community-led initiatives. Engage in meaningful consultation and collaboration to ensure their voices are heard and respected.
