Additional Information FAQ

The Power of Chemistry Sessions in Coaching

The foundation of a successful coaching journey rests upon a strong and harmonious relationship between the Coach and the Coachee. For this reason, and to maximise the opportunities for success, a “Chemistry Session” has been introduced as the platform for which you can start your professional development pathway.

The Chemistry Session is an initial interaction of only 15 to 30 minutes where the Coach and Coachee can meet, connect, establish understanding, and determine whether they are best suited to continue forward as part of the collaborative coaching journey.

This is an informal and dynamic prelude to formal and structured coaching and can be underestimated in its impact given the high value associated with finding the right fit to support identified needs.

  • Coaching is a psychologically safe space for you to express your thoughts and decision making with greater confidence.
  • Coaching services designed for the NTPS Executive have been aligned to the NTPS Capability framework, ensuring you are equipped with the right tools and framework to be successful throughout your career with NTPS.
  • You can pick the most appropriate Executive Coach to meet your needs.
  • Personalised matching of Executives with a highly experienced and skilled Coach is based on your capabilities, areas of growth and strengths.
  • Sessions are confidential.
  • Sessions are easy to book based on your availability through our digital platform
  • Accessibility – streamlines coaching, support, tools, and analytics in an accessible platform for ease of connectivity, engagement, tracking and reporting.
  • You can design your own individualised coaching journey based on the selection of offerings available. Pathways are unique to your needs, ambitions, and goals.
  • Our system enables confidential capturing of your own digital journal and goal-setting notes.
  • These professional development offerings can build your confidence and techniques to be successful in future promotion, career progression and job interviews.
  • Use of our digital services enables you to receive data-driven insights to explore areas of strength, areas of growth, aspirations, readiness for progression and development needs, all with the support of a highly trained professional.
  • Approach sessions with a growth mindset. By bringing a growth mindset into your approach to professional development, you are demonstrating your own belief that your capacities and areas requiring improvement can be developed and strengthened over time. Showing up to sessions with a positive attitude and willingness to challenge any self-limiting beliefs will help you get the most out of your sessions.
  • Stay curious. The more open you are to taking on feedback and new ideas, the more you will get out of your engagement with our team of expert facilitators.
  • Spend a bit of time reflecting on your own goals, barriers to achieving goals, successes, and priority areas impacting on your role as a leader and bring these to your sessions.
  • Take the opportunity to reflect on what you discuss and uncover following sessions that you participate in. As an Executive, you may not always have time to revisit topics and discussion points down the track. We encourage you to take 10 and reflect following your sessions, and we have made this process as easy for you as possible with reflection questions and templates embedded into the Coaching Platform ready for you to use (please note, your reflections remain confidential).

Following completion of the Self Discovery Assessment and Reflection Tool, you have the opportunity to curate a personalised coaching experience and engage in the professional development offerings most beneficial to you.

Creating a tailored journey can feel daunting, so we have provided some examples of what you might select from or use to guide your pathway:

Example One
Sophie is interested in progressing her career within the Government Department where she has a managerial role. Following completion of the Self Discovery Assessment Tool, findings and reflections indicated that areas where she needs to improve her confidence and performance primarily fit within the Productive Relationships Capability Pillar (specifically effective communication, influence, and negotiation).

With her goal to progress into different and more executive managerial roles and concerned that her challenges in navigating productive relationships could be holding her back from achieving a promotion within the next 18-months, Sophie structured the following development pathway with guidance from the offerings available, to take place over a 12-month period. Click here to view Sophie’s pathway.

Example Two
Burt has worked in the public sector for over 20 years, the last 7 of which he has held ECO5 and ECO6 Level Positions. Burt believes he has reached his peak in his career and is aiming to retire in 4 years’ time; however, he feels unsure of next steps, how to navigate transition into retirement, or how to ensure his workload remains sustainable if he stays in his current role which he enjoys and worked hard to secure.

On receiving his Self-Discovery Assessment Results, Burt is surprised to discover that the areas where he is least confident and are highlighted as areas for improvement are within the People Leadership Pillar (talent development and manage change) and Personal Attributes (manage self). And knowing that the timeframe he has in place around his retirement is what he is working towards, Burt then develops the following plan to dip his toes into a professional development journey that will help him to meet his target in a supported and structured way.

  • 5 x Career Guidance and Development Sessions
  • 8-month commitment
  • Focus on structured support to individually and organisationally prepare for a sustainable transition into retirement
  • Commitment to review progress and needs at the 8-month mark and reassess professional development pathways based on what is identified within Career Guidance sessions.

In professional development, individuals often seek guidance and support to enhance their skills and achieve their goals. Two common approaches to pursuing personal development, professional growth and career progression are professional coaching and mentoring. While they both aim to assist individuals in their journey, there are fundamental differences between the two.

This table provides a clear outline of the distinctions between a professional coaching relationship and a mentoring relationship, enabling individuals to choose the most suitable approach for their specific needs.

In summary, professional coaching and mentoring serve different purposes in supporting individuals’ growth and development. While coaching emphasises self-discovery, goal-setting, and personal growth, mentoring centres around sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and leveraging the mentor’s expertise.

Selecting the appropriate approach depends on the individual’s specific requirements and desired outcomes. In some cases, a combination of both coaching and mentoring might be beneficial to achieve holistic personal and professional development.

Invoicing of your selected delegate approved services will be provided to your individual Agency and or Department at the end of each session.
