Amie Coop

Social Worker
Amie Coop is an Accredited Social Worker who supports children, adolescents, adults, couples and families experiencing anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions and complex stressors. She is known for her warm, authentic style and ability to build trust quickly, helping people make sense of their experiences, understand their patterns, and draw on the strengths they already possess.

Professional summary

Amie is a Social Worker with over 12 years of experience delivering wellbeing, counselling and support services across private practice, health, education, church and community settings. She is the Founder and Director of Head Heart Hands Therapy & Education, an NDIS‑registered private practice in a rural community, where she provides individual counselling, family support and group programs for children, adolescents, adults and families. Her practice integrates neurodivergent‑affirming and play‑based approaches, alongside evidence‑informed therapeutic models.

Amie has extensive experience in crisis support, trauma debriefing and bereavement support through her work as an ordained pastor, school counsellor and youth development officer. She has provided pastoral counselling and crisis intervention, led wellbeing initiatives, managed large volunteer teams and events, and collaborated with families and local agencies to strengthen outcomes for vulnerable individuals and communities.

Her background also includes school counselling, where she supported students and families with emotional and behavioural concerns and designed school‑wide wellbeing initiatives. As a Youth Development Officer, she facilitated assessments and support planning for at‑risk young people, and delivered workshops on resilience and personal development. Amie has hospital and healthcare social work experience through placements at Townsville Hospital and a Cairns not‑for‑profit, working as part of multidisciplinary teams and alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Personal Approach

“I am known for my warm, authentic approach and my ability to build trust quickly with people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. I am passionate about helping people make sense of their story, understand why they think, feel and respond the way they do, and recognise the strengths they already carry. My practice combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), strengths‑based and person‑centred approaches, with a strong belief in the importance of healthy communication and the role that family and community can play in a person’s growth and sense of belonging. Where it is requested or desired, I also support clients from a Christian faith perspective, integrating faith into the therapeutic process in a way that is respectful, collaborative and led by the client.”

Why ASPL for social worker?

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. Information shared in sessions is confidential and handled in line with our privacy obligations. We will let you know in advance about the small number of circumstances where we are required to share information (for example, where there is risk of serious harm).

Are sessions in person or online?

Both. Telehealth is available across Australia. In-person sessions are available in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Do I need a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

You do not need a referral to book with us. A Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP may allow you to claim a Medicare rebate for sessions with an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. If you would like one, your GP can prepare it for you.

How much does a session cost?

Our session fees and current Medicare rebate amounts are available on our booking page. For some clients, seeing an AMHSW under Medicare may reduce out-of-pocket costs.

Is this clinical care or wellbeing support?

This is social work support delivered within a supervised practice. Medicare-funded clinical care is available with our Accredited Mental Health Social Workers. If you are looking for non-clinical wellbeing support, our Wellbeing Coaches sit in a separate service.

Is your social work support trauma-informed?

Yes. Our practice is trauma-informed and recovery-oriented. You are never pushed to share more than you are ready for, and we work with you at the pace that feels right.

What is the difference between a social worker and a psychologist?

Both can support people experiencing mental health challenges. Under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, Medicare rebates may be available with eligible psychologists and Accredited Mental Health Social Workers. A social worker often brings a particular strength in working with trauma, family and relationships, and in helping you navigate the systems and services around your situation. A psychologist often brings particular depth in diagnosis, assessment and structured therapy. We can help you think through which suits you best.
